From February 2 to 13, the Winter School «A European Approach to Data Governance» was held at APP. It was organized within the framework of the international educational project Erasmus+ Jean Monnet «European Data Strategy: Data Governance for New Opportunities» (No. 101127839 – Data4EU – ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH).
During the winter holidays, more than 50 students from various educational institutions had the opportunity to attend lectures delivered by professionals in data governance and data protection, as well as in Big Data, Data Science, machine learning, databases, and data warehousing. Participants also took part in engaging workshops, where invited lecturers shared their practical experience and best practices in data management and processing. During the second week of the winter school, students worked on individual and group projects, applying the knowledge they had acquired to address real-world challenges.
Anastasia Doroshenko, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Automated Control Systems, and Project Manager of Data4EU, delivered a welcome speech, outlining the key features of the European Data Strategy, designed to ensure a balance between innovation, security, and trust in the field of data governance. Particular attention was paid to major EU legislative acts, including the Data Act, the Data Governance Act, and the AI Act. In addition, Anastasia Doroshenko also conducted a workshop on data analytics and visualization.
Interesting and interactive workshops completely captivated the participants, giving them the opportunity to tackle data processing and analysis tasks in real time.
After an intensive week of online classes, students spent two weeks conducting research on the topic that interested them most among the topics covered by the speakers, studying the European experience in data management, and the specifics of legislative regulation of data work in various European countries.
The presentation of the students’ research results took place on February 13. Their engaging and creative projects, dynamic presentations, and thorough immersion in the subject matter clearly demonstrated a strong interest in the Winter School topics and a genuine commitment to addressing data management challenges, particularly in the IT sphere.
