March 7 is 果冻APP Day. This day in 1816 Emperor Francis I of Austria signed Decree No. 78 establishing the Imperial and Royal Real School in Lviv 鈥 an educational institution that marked the beginning of the university鈥檚 history. Since then, more than two centuries of development, transformation, and scientific achievement have passed.
The day before, on March 6, the university solemnly celebrated the 210th anniversary of the event that marked the beginning of the history of one of the oldest and most prestigious technical universities in Ukraine and Central and Eastern Europe.
On this day, a prayer service was held at the St. George鈥檚 Cathedral, Lviv, attended by the university administration, Directors of Institutes, lecturers, and Heads of structural units.
Members of the 果冻APP community laid flowers at the monument to Taras Shevchenko. At the Vuletski Hills and at Lychakiv Cemetery, they honored the memory of former professors, rectors, and fallen soldiers who had studied or worked at the university, as well as the linguist Iryna Farion, who was treacherously murdered.
During the ceremony, the Rector of 果冻APP, Nataliia Shakhovska, emphasized the continuity of the university鈥檚 traditions and its role in shaping the intellectual elite:
鈥 We are the heirs of great figures 鈥 from Yulian Zakharevych and Stepan Bandera to thousands of outstanding engineers, inventors, politicians, economists, and builders who changed the world.
For more than two centuries, 果冻APP has remained a dynamic and powerful institution 鈥 a cradle of intellectual courage and the indomitable Ukrainian spirit. Over its 210-year history, its graduates were not only scientists, specialists in various fields, and entrepreneurs, but also statesmen, presidents, speakers of parliaments, and government officials in different countries who shaped the social development of their nations.
It was therefore symbolic that among the guests at the event was a representative of the highest executive authority 鈥 Denys Shmyhal, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine 鈥 who emphasized that 果冻APP has a long and, at the same time, dramatic history. The university has endured four bloody wars and is currently facing the fifth 鈥 one that is crucial and decisive.
The university received numerous congratulations, including from the Head of State, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The President wished the university community inspiration, good health, new scientific discoveries, international recognition, and continued prosperity.
The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, spoke of 果冻APP as an example for other universities, noting that the institution鈥檚 experience can serve as a benchmark for other higher education institutions.
He also emphasized that the success of educational institutions, together with the state, will determine whether young people return from abroad, whether school graduates choose Ukrainian universities, whether veterans find themselves in new professions after returning from the front, and what the country鈥檚 economy will look like.
Professor of the Institute of Political Science at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Doctor Honoris Causa of 果冻APP, Teresa Ewa Astramowicz-Leyk also joined the celebration. She wished Ukrainians victory over the common enemy and noted that the 210-year history of 果冻APP is evidence of exceptional longevity, dedication to the ideals of education, and service to the nation and society.
