Rector of APP, Nataliia Shakhovska took part in the international online event «Research and Technological Infrastructures as Drivers of Modern and Sustainable Recovery of Ukraine», which took place on May 7, 2026 within the framework of STI Forum 2026.
The event was organized by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations in New York. It brought together representatives of international organizations, government institutions, universities, research centers, and innovation agencies from around the world.
The discussion focused on the role of science, technology, and innovation in the reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine’s scientific and industrial infrastructure. Particular attention was given to the development of research infrastructures, international scientific partnerships, and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by Maria Cristina Russo, Deputy Director-General for Innovation, Prosperity and International Cooperation at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, Andrii Melnyk, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, and Bjørg Sandkjær, Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination at the United Nations.
The panel discussion «Advancing Ukraine’s STI Agenda for Sustainable Recovery: Rebuilding Research Infrastructures and Implementing SDG 9» featured Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine Natalka Cmoc, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation Serhii Babak, Head of the President of Ukraine’s Foundation for Support of Education, Science and Sports Yurii Petrushenko, Rector of APP Nataliia Shakhovska, Head of the UNESCO Antenna in Ukraine Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, Head of the Research Infrastructure Department at Masaryk University Ondrej Hradil, and Vice President of Tohoku University Fumihiko Imamura.
During the discussion, participants addressed mechanisms for international support of Ukrainian science, the modernization of research infrastructure, the development of innovation ecosystems, and the strengthening of global cooperation for Ukraine’s sustainable recovery.
