On May 14, 2026, as part of the project “EU Global Responsible Leadership: Climate Change, Environmental Protection, and Humanitarian Aid” (EU_LEAD), supported by the Jean Monnet Action of the Erasmus+ program, a public lecture was held by Oleg Tsebenko, Ph.D. in Political Science. The lecture was dedicated to the EU’s global leadership in contemporary international relations and its impact on global political and security processes. During the event, students and faculty had the opportunity to discuss current issues in international relations and the role of the EU in shaping global policies.
The lecture focused on the EU’s global leadership in contemporary international relations and its impact on global political and security processes. During the event, students and faculty had the opportunity to discuss current trends in the EU’s development as well as its strategic priorities and goals.
The lecture highlighted the main characteristics of the EU’s global leadership and analyzed the key instruments and programs through which the Union is strengthening its international influence, notably the Global Gateway and the Strategic Compass. Special attention was paid to the EU’s role in the humanitarian sphere, addressing climate threats, protecting human rights, and promoting democratic values worldwide.
An important part of the lecture was a discussion of the specifics of Ukraine’s European integration, support amid the Russia-Ukraine war, financial aid programs for Ukraine, as well as the challenges and prospects of Ukraine’s future EU membership. Attention was also focused on the opportunities for young people opened up by cooperation with the European Union in the fields of education, academic mobility, and professional development.
In conclusion, Oleg Tsebenko emphasized the importance of upholding European values, developing democratic institutions, and strengthening Ukraine’s European integration course as a vital component of modern state-building and democratic development.
A total of 31 people participated in the event—faculty members and third-year students from the educational programs “International Law,” “Political Technologies and Leadership,” and “Social and Media Communications” at the Vadym Hetman Kyiv National Economic University.
