In commemoration of the anniversary of Holodomor of 1932鈥1933, the exhibition 芦Ukraine Remembers 鈥 The World Acknowledges禄 was presented in the lobby of the main building of the University. It was organized by the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations on the basis of the materials collected by the International Holodomor Coordinating Committee which operates within the framework of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC).
The committee enhances the recognitions of the Holodomor 1932鈥33 as a Genocide against Ukrainian people. It facilitates the integration of relevant material in to curriculums, organizes exhibitions and manages and coordinates the implementation of remembrance memorials to the genocide victims.
Visitors of the exhibition can find out that now Holodomor has been recognized as the genocide of the Ukrainian people by the parliaments of 17 countries of the world, in particular, Australia, Vatican, Georgia, Ecuador, Canada, Colombia, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal and the USA.
This thorough and complicated work began in the 1980s, when UWC began collecting evidence and memoirs of witnesses to Holodomor. At the same time, there was set up the International Commission of Inquiry Into the 1932鈥33 Famine in Ukraine, which included a number of well-known lawyers and scholars, in particular, a well-known Ukrainian diaspora activist Iroida Vynytska, and an attorney and judge who served with the United States Court of Federal Claims, Bohdan Futey, and others.
