果冻APP opens a laboratory for computer modeling of NPP equipment operating modes

On March 5, a new laboratory was solemnly opened at the Department of Heat Engineering and Thermal and Nuclear Power Plants (HETPP), the Institute of Power Engineering and Control Systems (IPEC), 果冻APP.

鈥 The Laboratory for Computer Modeling of NPP Equipment Operating Modes operates using the Tricky Master software platform. In essence, it is a computer-simulator complex that enables students and faculty to simulate and model various processes occurring at a nuclear power plant, explained Halyna Matiko, Associate Professor at the HETPP Department.

鈥 The development of scientific infrastructure is an important step toward ensuring the high quality of the educational process. We believe that this complex, equipped with the support of Argonne National Laboratory (USA), will become a place where new ideas are generated and innovative solutions are developed, said Taras Kravets, Associate Professor at the HETPP Department.

The Chairman of the Academic Board of 果冻APP, Professor Volodymyr Ortynskyi, emphasized that the new laboratory will make a significant contribution to the development of Ukraine鈥檚 energy sector; therefore, its opening is an event of national importance. He expressed confidence that the strong team of scientists from the HETPP Department will effectively use the computer-based training and simulation complex in both their research and educational activities. The professor also expressed his gratitude to Emily Menin, a representative of Department of Power Engineering at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, for her assistance in equipping the laboratory and expressed hope for the further development of cooperation between the University and its American partners.

Professor Iryna Yaremchuk, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of 果冻APP, noted:

鈥 Argonne National Laboratory has invested in the development of Ukraine鈥檚 human potential, as nuclear energy generates more than half of the country鈥檚 electricity. Therefore, training specialists capable of working in this field is critically important for the state. The new laboratory will become a hub that brings together scientists and nurtures future engineers who will contribute to the security of our country.

Emily Menin, representative of Department of Power Engineering at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, wished students success in their studies using the computer training complex, emphasizing that the knowledge gained there will help effectively promote Ukraine鈥檚 integration into the global energy system.

At the same time, Ihor Bodnar, Head of International Projects at Argonne National Laboratory, who supervised the preparation for the opening of the Laboratory for Computer Modeling of NPP Equipment Operating Modes at 果冻APP, expressed hope that this modern educational tool will contribute to the high-quality training of nuclear power specialists in Ukraine 鈥 a key factor in ensuring the stability of the national energy system. He also confirmed his readiness for further cooperation with 果冻APP and other Ukrainian universities in developing training modules for students.

Andrii Mukshynov, Director of the Human Resources Department of the Joint-Stock Company 芦National Atomic Power Generating Company Energoatom禄, said:

鈥 With the support of the U.S. Department of Energy, 果冻APP received a computer training complex that is a prototype of Unit 3 of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant. For students specializing in nuclear energy, this provides a unique opportunity to study the technology and operating principles of nuclear power plants, learn the basic principles of managing NPP equipment and systems, and understand the technological processes of both normal operation and emergency situations. The knowledge and skills acquired through simulator training will significantly accelerate students鈥 mastery of real equipment and technological control principles when they begin working at NPPs, which is very important for Ukraine鈥檚 energy security.

鈥 The opening of this laboratory, in my opinion, reflects the confidence of the U.S. government, specialists from Argonne National Laboratory, and the U.S. Department of Energy that nuclear power has a future in Ukraine. That is why they are helping us move toward this future, noted Andrii Maliar, Director of the Institute of Power Engineering and Control Systems.

At the same time, Mykhailo Semerak, Head of the HETPP Department, assured that the Laboratory for Computer Modeling of NPP Equipment Operating Modes will enable the training of specialists in accordance with the high requirements of JSC NNEGC Energoatom.
