Students, faculty members, researchers, and all interested participants are invited to join the international online event «Nature in Danger: The Destruction of Nature in Ukraine During the War,» dedicated to the environmental consequences of russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

During the event, experts will present assessments and research findings on the large-scale environmental damage caused by the war, including the destruction of natural ecosystems, soil and water contamination, extensive forest fires, biodiversity loss, and damage to protected natural areas. The war not only devastates infrastructure but also creates long-term environmental risks affecting ecosystems, economic stability, and food security.

The event is organized by the international civic community Ukrainian Jersey City and Penn State University and will take place on April 26, 2026, as an open online meeting.

The discussion will focus on:

  • the environmental consequences of the war for Ukraine’s natural areas;
  • the challenges of ecosystem restoration during wartime and in the post-war recovery period;
  • the role of civic initiatives and the academic community in protecting the environment.

Among the participants will be Serhiy Shevchenko, Associate Professor at the Department of Entrepreneurship and Environmental Expertise of Goods at APP, who will share the experience of civic environmental initiatives and projects aimed at environmental restoration and environmental education.

The event will be particularly relevant for students and researchers in the fields of environmental studies, sustainable development, entrepreneurship, logistics, public administration, international relations, and civil society.

We invite the university community to join this important discussion on the future of Ukraine’s natural environment and the pathways for its restoration.
