On April 2, 2026, Lviv hosted the conference «Development of Waste Management Systems in Territorial Communities: Local Plans, Biowaste Recovery, and Financial Instruments». The event was organized by the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Regional State Administration in cooperation with APP as part of the AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB project.
The conference brought together representatives of territorial communities, municipal enterprises, and educational institutions interested in implementing modern approaches to waste management. Participants showed considerable interest in developing local waste management plans, introducing effective solutions for biowaste treatment, and leveraging international funding opportunities.
The event had a distinctly practical focus, aimed at enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills in planning and organizing waste management systems. Particular attention was given to the development of local plans, including their structure, key stages of implementation, and the integration of contemporary waste management practices.
Volodymyr Korda, Director of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources, Lviv Regional State Administration, presented the key priorities of the Regional Waste Management Plan for Lviv Region till 2034, outlining its main objectives and implementation challenges.
A comprehensive presentation on European funding opportunities for territorial communities in the field of waste management was delivered by the AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB project team from APP – Myroslav Maliovany, Ivan Tymchuk, and Volodymyr Zhuk, Department of Ecology and Sustainable Environmental Management, Viacheslav Chornovil Institute of Sustainable Development.
The conference also addressed core aspects of developing local waste management plans, including their structure, waste classification, and stages of preparation. Special emphasis was placed on the recovery of separately collected biowaste at the municipal level and on approaches to managing agricultural waste as a valuable resource. In addition, participants were introduced to European funding instruments that support the development of efficient and sustainable waste management systems in territorial communities.
