Research Activities

Main Research Area:

Theoretical, methodological and applied aspects of linguo-analytical and statistical processing of natural language information in modern philology. Scientific and conceptual paradigms of text analysis in applied linguistics and translation studies: problems, approaches, and trends. (approved: 30.06.2025, No. 12-2024/2025)

Research Context (2020–2024) The COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war have profoundly transformed the linguistic worldview, discourse structures, and mechanisms of constructing national identity. These global crises have reshaped axiological and conceptual systems, introducing military terminology, emotionally charged language units, crisis and uncertainty vocabulary into everyday communication and mass media discourse. In this context, the Department’s research focuses on the analysis of various types of discourse transformations caused by the pandemic and war. Special attention is given to the impact of digital technologies on linguistic representation, including corpus-based contrastive analysis, as well as the theory and practice of translation in crisis conditions.

Research Directions:

  1. Analysis of military discourse and the semantics of pandemic and war-related vocabulary in social media (Ukrainian and foreign languages).
  2. Implementation of contrastive research projects (English–Ukrainian language pair) and analysis of discursive practices in the formation of Ukrainian national identity using corpus-based approaches.
  3. Translation of socially significant works.
  4. Study of the impact of digitalisation on education, particularly within the framework of the Society 5.0 concept.

Projects / Grants:

  • CONFINTERP – Optional Course in Conference Interpreting for Master’s Students at APP

A unique initiative supported by the European Parliament, designed to provide students with opportunities for careers in international institutions. The program follows the requirements of the European Parliament’s Directorate for Translation and Logistics and aims to train specialists capable of high-level conference interpreting. The innovative approach combines digital technologies, practical training, and authentic European Parliament materials. Project details

  • DAAD Project: Continue TeleTeaching as German Support for Computer Science at LPNU, 2022, (implemented by the Department of Polish Language, led by Associate Professor Marianna Dilay).
  • NAWA Grant: “Shaping Cultural Competence in Teaching Polish at Ukrainian Universities. Promotion of the Polish Language” (BJP/PJP/2023/1/00011). This project included the online linguistic and didactic seminar “Teaching Polish at Ukrainian Universities” (April 8–9, 2024) and resulted in the publication of the textbook: Kondzioła-Pich K., Krzanowska A., Łewczenko O., Pewełko I. Language Culture and the Language of Culture: Materials for Learning Polish for Ukrainian Students (Level B2–C1), authored by lecturers of the Department of Polish Language (Olena Levchenko, Iryna Pewełko) and lecturers of the University of Szczecin.
  • Project “Open Science for Ukrainian Higher Education System / (Erasmus+ KA2 CBHE, 1 November 2023 – 31 October 2026), representative: Associate Professor Solomiya Albota.

  1. Assoc. Prof. Iryna Karamysheva, Fulbright Visiting Scholar (2023–2024), conducted research at the Department of Linguistics, University of California, Davis (USA) on the topic “Contemporary Trends in Contrastive Grammatical Studies (English–Ukrainian Parallels)”.   2. Assoc. Prof. Nataliia Romanyshyn, recipient of the prestigious non-resident CEFRES scholarship awarded by the Government of France, carried out a research internship in France focused on the project “Discursive (De)construction of Ukrainian National Identity: From Totalitarianism to Democracy”.
  3. Assoc. Prof. Nataliia Romanyshyn, recipient of the scholarship program of the Government of France “High-Level Research Visits to French Universities for Ukrainian Researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences”. Research stay at Sorbonne University, Paris, France, from October 1 to November 30, 2024. Research topic: “Resonance and Memory: Literary and Publicistic Narratives of Memory in Post-War Ukraine”.
  4. Assoc. Prof. Nataliia Romanyshyn, recipient of the UMIFRE grant program for Ukrainian researchers in the humanities and social sciences (a research consortium of French and German universities). Participation in a scientific seminar at the University of Warsaw, Centre for East, Central Europe and Caucasus Studies, entitled “The Current State and Development of Research on Intellectual Trajectories in the Humanities During and After War”.   7. Assoc. Prof. Solomiia Albota twice received the diploma of the winner of the competition “Best Young Scientist of the Year” (2022 and 2023) at APP in the field of Humanities (Linguistics, Cultural Studies, Art Studies).
  8. Assoc. Prof. Solomiia Albota provided translation support for the documentation of an exhibition of APP presented at the Second International Interactive Knowledge Festival in Rzeszów (Poland), as well as documentation for a cross-border cooperation project. She also translated a reference publication presented at the international exhibition “Education and Career – 2011”, which was awarded a gold medal.
