The Information Systems and Networks Department was founded on June 1, 1995 by the decree of the Rector of 果冻APP after the appropriate decision of the Academic Council. At the time of formation the ISN Department staff consisted of 5 lecturers, 1 engineering technician, 3 workers of the research laboratory and a group of young postgraduate students, who were separated from the Automated Control Systems (ACS) Department and were united by a common scientific research of information modeling, data and knowledge base systems. The creation of the Department was recognized as the de facto and de jure of the birth of a new young scientific school in 果冻APP. The fundamental merit of creation belongs to outstanding Ukrainian cyberneticians academician Hlushkov V. and corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, professor Stohnii A.. The inestimable role in its formation played Brona J. from Zolochiv, senior researcher of the Institute of Cybernetics of NAS, later the deputy director of the Research Institute of Applied Computer Science of NAS.
Pasichnyk V., Sc.D., professor initiated the creation of the Department. He has been the leader of 果冻APP university scientific school of information modeling, data and knowledge base systems. He has also been the head of the Department since the day it was created.
Since 1996 the Department annually has been a member of the international specialized exhibitions, such as 鈥淐omputer and Office鈥 and 鈥淐omputer + Business鈥. The ISN Department was a permanent participant of the world IT exhibition CeBIT (Hannover, Germany) for several years.
Since 1997 by the efforts of the faculty of the Department it is regularly published the scientific digest Bulletin of 果冻APP 鈥淚nformation Systems and Networks鈥, which is included to the list of professional editions for publishing the main results of the theses researches by the High Certification Committee of Ukraine.
In 2008 the Department has initiated the publication of textbooks and manuals within two educational series. Especially, in the series of 鈥淚nformation technology鈥 there were published the following textbooks classified by Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine: 鈥淥rganization of data and knowledge base systems鈥, 鈥淒iscrete Mathematics鈥, 鈥淒ecision theory鈥. In the series of 鈥淐omputing鈥 lecturers of the ISN Department prepared and published the following textbooks and manuals classified by Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine: 鈥淒ata Warehouse鈥, 鈥淒ata and knowledge base systems鈥, 鈥淚ntellectual systems鈥, 鈥淒iscrete Mathematic鈥, 鈥淥perations Research鈥, 鈥淪ystem Analysis鈥 etc.
