On April 3, 2026, APP hosts a public lecture by Oleksandr Alfiorov, Head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, a renowned historian and popularizer of history, and a former officer of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2022–2025).
The institution he leads plays a key role in shaping and implementing state policy in the field of national memory. Its mission includes countering anti-Ukrainian myths and propaganda, as well as advancing the deep decolonization of Ukrainian historical narratives.
The lecture will focus on the history lessons in the context of the ongoing Russian–Ukrainian war and the search for value-based foundations for Ukraine’s post-war future. Particular attention will be given to rethinking historical experience and strengthening a proactive, subject-oriented national identity.
- How can individuals become active creators of their own destiny rather than perceiving themselves and their country as victims of circumstances?
- How can we preserve continuity with the struggles of previous generations and interpret today’s war through the lens of Ukraine’s long-standing pursuit of sovereignty and self-determination?
These and other issues will be discussed in the Assembly Hall of the University’s main building. The event begins at 10:00.
Nataliia Shakhovska, Rector of APP, will take part in the event.
The organizers invite students, faculty members, media representatives, and all those interested in Ukrainian history to attend.
