On February 25, 2026, a presentation – spectacle to the 155th anniversary of Lesia Ukrainka’s birth and on the occasion of the release of the second updated edition of «The Key to Ukraine. Stories from Lesia’s Life» – a textbook on Ukrainian as a foreign language, level B1, will be held in the Student Space «3rd Floor» at APP (3 Mytropolyta Andreiia St.).
The organizer of the event is the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, APP.
«Do we know Lesia Ukrainka? No. But we want the world to know her. That doesn’t happen. Let us get to know her – the real one, uncensored by the Soviet system – and then the world will get to know her as well. Yes, this requires intellectual work and reading with a pencil. And let us remember that it was she, as Oksana Zabuzhko says, who gave Ukraine a «European passport», urges Iryna Kliuchkovska, Director of the IECDR.
To mark the 155th anniversary of Lesia Ukrainka’s birth, the student community of APP is invited to an event that will combine literature, history, and a lively university dialogue – the presentation of the book «Stories from Lesia’s Life», created by the team of the International Institute of Education, Culture, and Diaspora Relations.
This time, the figure of Lesia Ukrainka will be revealed not only through the artistic word, but also through unique materials from the archives of the Ukrainian Free Academy of Sciences in New York, which are being studied by literary critic Tamara Skrypka.
Photos and texts reveal to us a different Lesia – one we do not encounter in school textbooks. A living, multifaceted portrait of the poet comes into focus: not an icon cast in stone, but a strong yet vulnerable woman who was able to unite artistic creation with civic conviction, and personal drama with a deep sense of national responsibility.
Through fragments of the book «Stories from Lesia’s Life», the participants of the event will hear the intonations of her inner world – doubts, faith and the power of her resistance.
Mariia Slovoliub, a famous blogger, philologist, teacher and popularizer of the Ukrainian language, folklorist, and influencer will take part in the event. Nataliia Shakhovska, Rector of APP, and Tamara Skrypka will also participate.
The event will be complemented by a performance by the Akolada National Chamber Vocal Ensemble, the Prosvita People’s House of APP.
Representatives of the academic community, student youth, media, and the general public will attend the event which will start at 11:45.
