On March 26, 2026, the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations (IECDR), APP, will present the results of a sociological study entitled «Ukrainians in Latvia: Integration and Community Building during the Full-Scale Russian–Ukrainian War». The research was conducted in partnership with the VICHE Confederation (Latvia).
The study examines how the Ukrainian community in Latvia has evolved since February 24, 2022. It explores the integration of forced migrants from Ukraine, their interaction with established Ukrainian organizations, and their role in shaping new civic initiatives. Particular attention is given to the transformation of Ukrainian organizations in Latvia and their contribution to supporting Ukraine during the war.
The findings provide a foundation for developing effective strategies for cooperation with Ukrainians abroad, supporting community initiatives, preserving national identity, and engaging the diaspora’s potential in Ukraine’s future reconstruction.
During the presentation, the key results of a survey of Ukrainians in Latvia will be unveiled, followed by discussions on:
- the integration of Ukrainian forced migrants into Latvian society;
- interaction between newly arrived Ukrainians and established diaspora organizations;
- emerging forms of civic engagement among Ukrainians in Latvia;
- the role of the diaspora in supporting Ukraine during the war.
The event will serve as a platform for discussing contemporary migration processes, the transformation of Ukrainian communities in Europe, and the role of the diaspora in strengthening international support for Ukraine. All participants will receive certificates.
The presentation will take place in Zachariewicz Hall (Room 214) in the main building of APP. The event starts at 14:00.
All interested persons are welcome to attend!
For Reference
The study was carried out by the IECDR in partnership with the VICHE Confederation (Latvia) and consisted of two stages: desk research and qualitative sociological analysis. The qualitative component involved anonymous in-depth online interviews with two groups of respondents: Ukrainians who relocated to Latvia after the onset of the full-scale invasion in 2022, and long-term members of the Ukrainian community actively involved in diaspora organizations. The fieldwork phase was conducted from September to December 2025. The full report will be published on the IECDR website.
